A last minute attempt at fitting in a ‘Strangers’ shoot on Oahu, meant leaving my baby with Cece and my parents for an hour, and running over to Waikiki Beach on the night before we flew out.

I knew I wanted to try one of these sessions while we were in Honolulu, but I foolishly left it until the last possible moment – and I didn’t even prepare by doing any pre-scouting for locations. By the time I arrived at the beach from my hotel, the sun was already setting…so I just set up shop I started the clock.

This was a bad idea for many reasons…

The sunsets on Waikiki Beach are beautiful, of course, however that isn’t the time or the place to try to converse with complete strangers…all of whom are also scrambling to take their own photos of the sunset! Another factor that I didn’t really consider? That sunset is all over in about 10 minutes – and the quality of the light changes by the second! This made for a very uneven set of portraits. That’ll teach me for not planning ahead!

The following are a few of the photos I took during this session. If you’d like to see more, please head over to www.flickr.com/photos/codename.
